Andean Baroque Route

Embark on the “Ruta del Barroco Andino” tour starting at 8:00 AM. The first stop is the Chapel of the Virgen Purificada de Canincunca, situated atop a historic Wari center near Lake Urcos. This location provides a glimpse into the Pre-Incan Culture. Following a brief visit to Canincunca, the journey proceeds to the Temple of Saint John the Baptist of Huaro. This temple boasts over 60 sculptures, 50 canvases, and exquisite silversmith work, including altarpieces and refined furniture.

The third destination is the Saint Peter the Apostle Temple in Andahuaylillas, celebrated for its majestic Mudejar-influenced craftsmanship. Marvel at a diverse array of canvases, including those dedicated to Saint Peter the Apostle, and the vibrant polychrome of the ceiling and triumphal arch separating the presbyter from the main vessel.

After exploring Andahuaylillas, the tour returns to Cusco around 12:30 PM, heading to the fourth destination, the Temple of the Society of Jesus. This temple, constructed in 1576 atop the Incan Temple of Amaru Cancha, showcases remarkable major altars made of cedar wood adorned with layers of gold.
