The day starts with us picking you up from your hotel in either Cusco or the Sacred Valley, depending on where you’re staying. We’ll take a bus for about an hour and a half to the train station in Ollantaytambo. It’s a beautiful drive, and once we’re there, we’ll get on the train for the two-hour ride to Machu Picchu town.
On the train ride, you’ll see some fantastic and beautiful landscapes of the jungle. It’s a great way to appreciate the Sacred River of the Incas, called Willcamayo in Quechua. The train ride itself is an unforgettable experience, and when we get to Machu Picchu town, we’ll meet up with the guide and head to the bus station for the final 30-minute trip up to the ruins.
When we finally arrive, after we show our passports at the entrance, you can take a moment to just breathe and feel the energy of peace and happiness. It’s an ancient site, so you can really feel the magic. You’ll get to enjoy the first incredible view from the citadel, a moment you have surely been waiting for with so much anticipation.
After that unforgettable moment, the guide will start a two-hour tour. They will tell you all about the history and architecture of this amazing place. You’ll learn how the citadel was divided into different zones and how it was able to survive so isolated. You’ll see the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Condor, and the Temple of the Three Windows.
If you’ve already reserved a pass for either Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu, you have two options: go with a guide or go on your own. The path is well-marked, so you won’t get lost. The tranquility up there is indescribable, and it’s a great spot to meditate. The Incas believed this place was a temple dedicated to the five elements of power, which is why so many pilgrims came here to heal.
After your visit, we’ll head back down to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town). You have the option to grab some lunch and try some delicious Peruvian food. In the afternoon, we’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.
Here’s a quick list of what you can expect on the 1-day Machu Picchu tour. Everything is handled to make sure your day goes as smoothly as possible.
