Commencing at 6 am, your journey begins with a drive from your hotel to the quaint Village of Tauca (3,750m/12,303ft), marking the start of the trek. As you traverse level terrain, the landscape transforms into typical Andean Valleys, adorned with crops like corn, quinoa, potatoes, and Andean tubers. The ascent towards the pass at (4,050m/13,287ft) unfolds a dramatic change to the classic High Andean Savannah or Puna, characterized by sparse vegetation, particularly “ichu” or high-altitude grass. Marvel at the spectacular views of the Vilcabamba Mountain range, featuring snow-covered peaks such as Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon, and San Juan.
Descending towards the Huchuy Qosqo plains, you’ll encounter archeological sites within the Cauca Ravine, surrounded by fascinating wild plants like tarwi and cactus. The journey continues downhill to the Leon Punku ravine, where remnants of an Inca bridge and trail await exploration. The canyon boasts geological formations and leads to Huchuy Qosqo at 3,650m/11,975ft. Huchuy Qosqo, with its sophisticated stonework, Kallanka (rectangular Hall), residential and defensive quarters, offers a glimpse into Inca history. The trek concludes with a descent to Lamay at 2,900m/9,514ft, followed by a drive to Ollantaytambo. After dinner in a restaurant, embark on a train journey to Aguas Calientes, arriving at your hotel for an evening of relaxation.

The eagerly anticipated day begins with an early breakfast, followed by a bus ride to Machu Picchu for a sunrise experience. A two-hour guided tour unveils the key facets of Machu Picchu Citadel, divided into agricultural, residential, and religious sectors. After the tour, those opting for an additional hike up Huayna Picchu can savor additional panoramic views. Following the exploration, descend by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included), with opportunities for shopping, sightseeing, or visits to the museum or hot springs, depending on the train departure time.
Board the Expedition train back to Ollantaytambo, tracing the Urubamba River with breathtaking views. Your driver awaits at the train station exit, ensuring a private vehicle ride back to your Cusco hotel, with an estimated arrival by 7:00 pm.
