First on that list should be an open mind and a sense of humor! Such qualities will help you take in the amazing cultural landscape that awaits you in Peru. Don’t worry if you forget something—Cuzco is well-stocked with tourist shops selling all kinds of items like water bottles and first aid kits to hiking gear. Plus, you can rent any necessary equipment in Cuzco so you don’t have to bring too much along. So, all that’s left for you to do is grab your passport and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!
  • PACKING LIST FOR 4-DAY MACHU PICCHU CLASSIC TOUR Our definitive packing list after spending a lot of time traveling around Cusco and Machu Picchu. Here’s a packing list for your trip:
  • Passport with a minimum of 6-month validity left.
  • Photocopies of important documents like passport and tickets. Keep these separate from the originals.
  • A pair of hiking boots or walking shoes, as there are steps and uneven surfaces to walk.
  • A poncho to protect yourself during downpours, as the weather can change quickly. Plan to carry a good quality poncho in your daypack at all times, especially from November to March (you can find ponchos in the tourist shops in Cusco, but the quality may not always be great).
  • A warm, waterproof, and ideally windproof jacket for cold evenings and mornings, particularly from June to September. You may also want to bring a warm fleece to wear under a lightweight waterproof and windproof jacket.
  • Good quality sunscreen and a sunhat to avoid sunburn, as the altitude and proximity to the Equator can make the sun particularly strong.
  • Clothes that can easily be layered, such as warm layers and trousers that can be converted into shorts, as weather conditions may change throughout the day.
  • A day-pack with a hip strap for maximum comfort while hiking and exploring.
  • A refillable water bottle to be environmentally conscious and avoid plastic waste.
  • A small first aid kit for basic injuries and upsets, and enough prescription medicine to cover you for the length of your trip plus an extra week. Keep in mind that some brands and types of medicine may not be available in Peru.
  • Small flashlight.
  • Earplugs.
  • Duck pack or rainproof cover for backpack to avoid wet clothes.
  • Hat, scarf, and gloves.
  • Toiletries packed in resealable bags to avoid shampoo explosions.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Camera with extra battery and memory.
  • Padlocks for double zippers to secure belongings.
  • Prescriptions for any medication you require. Most chemists will sell medicine over the counter without a prescription, but if you are searched by immigration, it’s good to be able to show you require what you’re carrying.
