Chucuito, also known as the “Royal Boxes,” is located 18 km from the city of Puno. The following sites will be visited:
TEMPLE OF FERTILITY OR INKA UYO: A rectangular Inca ceremonial complex with phallic monuments.
CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION: Constructed with columns and arches, it is considered one of the finest in the region due to its Renaissance colonial architecture.
SOLAR CLOCK: Built with Huamanga stone, it is a unique artistic monument that indicates decimal time through a needle in contrast with the sun and shadow.
CHUCUITO VIEWPOINT: Once a ceremonial center of the Aimara Lupaca kingdom, it is currently used for the farewell of the carnivals. Constructed of mud, adobe, and tiles, it provides an ideal vantage point to admire the beauty of Lake Titicaca.
CHURCH OF SANTO DOMINGO: Dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary, founded in 1539. Next to the church, there is the Catechism Cross, carved in stone with images of the Virgin Mary and the apostle San Juan. This cross was used to initiate the indoctrination of the indigenous people.
CHUCUITO FISH FARM (OPTIONAL):
A center dedicated to the production and commercialization of trout. Visitors can observe the entire development process of trout, including three types: Brook, Brown, and Rainbow. The Rainbow trout is the most numerous due to its excellent adaptation to the geographical environment.
Belonging to the National University of the Altiplano, this facility was created with the aim of repopulating the trout species in Lake Titicaca, which was facing extinction due to indiscriminate fishing.

Chucuito is a small town in the province of Puno, located approximately 18 km from the city of Puno, along the Desaguadero and La Paz (Bolivia) highway. It sits at an elevation of 3,875 meters above sea level. The population is 7,913 inhabitants. It is one of the most beautiful towns along the shores of Lake Titicaca, offering stunning views from the Apus like the Auqui.
Among its tourist attractions are:
Chucuito is often referred to as the city of the Royal Boxes because it once had veins of mercury used to assay gold and silver from the mines of Potosí. It was a transit point, and this is the origin of the stone picks that are mistakenly and, due to tourism pressure, confused with phalluses. In our Andean world, there are no remnants of phallic worship, but rather rituals and ceremonies to PACHAMAMA expressed through the veneration of the Virgin Mary.
